Our Policies and Procedures

Uncollected Child Policy

The nursery has an obligation to stay with any uncollected children at the end of the day, until that child is collected.

The nursery must not release the child to an unauthorised person, even if the collection is late, unless an authorised person telephones to state that because of an emergency a different person will be collecting. In this case the authorised person should give a nursery password and the unauthorised person should have this password ready to give the nursery staff before being allowed to take the child home.

If an unauthorised person arrives without nursery being informed of a password, the nursery will get in touch with the authorised person asking for a description of the unauthorised person and name and address of unauthorised person. If the nursery is satisfied that the description is accurate and the unauthorised person can give the correct name and address then, and only then, will the child b ]e allowed to leave the premises.

A record will be kept of all children who are not collected by the due time. This will note the date, the time at which the child was collected. Who collected the child and the reason given.

In the event that a child is not collected by the due time on 2 occasions in one month, the parent will be written to by the nursery, pointing out the difficulties late collections cause the nursery, and informing the parent that a charge of £15.00 will believed if the child is left on the premises after the final collection time of 6pm. A further £15.00 per 15 mins (or part thereof) will be charged after 6pm.

Regular late collection will result in a letter informing the parent(s) that the child will not be able to attend nursery any further if this continues to happen.

Administration of Medication Policy

Children should not attend nursery if they are suffering from sickness, diarrhoea, an infectious illness or have any unspecific rashes (until diagnosed by a doctor).

If a child becomes ill whilst at nursery, their parent/carer will be telephoned to tell them of their child’s illness and be asked to collect the child. If parents are unavailable, other authorised contacts will be called.

In the event of an emergency, the child will be taken to the nearest hospital, accompanied by a member of staff, who will act ‘in loco parentis’ until their parent/carer arrives.

We will administer medicine and other treatments with parents’ permission. Parents are required to fill out a medication form with instructions of the time and amount before medicine that can be administered.

Parents will be telephoned before calpol is given, however, if a child’s temperature becomes exceptionally high and a parent cannot be contacted then calpol will be administered. This will only be after all other methods of relieving the temperature have been attempted.

If a child has to receive regular, prescribed medication whilst at nursery, full written details must be provided and the medication clearly marked with the child’s name and dosage instructions. When medicines are administered, the form will be signed by staff and witnessed and then verified by the parent at the end of the session. All forms are kept in the office in a securely locked cabinet.
